New covenant is better than the old. Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant.
Old covenant
Exodus 19:5,6: If you obey my voice, then you will be my possession.
New covenant
Hebrews 8: 10-12: I will do.. God is involved in my life.
Hebrews 12:18-24: You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them. But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
In the old covenant, it was the fear of punishment that kept people from sinning. In the new covenant, it is the love for Jesus that is the motivation to not sin. If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
Galatians 4:22-31: Slave-master relationship in the old covenant. Old covenant people were defeated by sin. New covenant is a son-father relationship. Romans 8:15: Spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out “Abba Father”.
Victory over sin is supernatural by trusting His promises. 1 John 5:14: This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
Two tablets
2 Cor 3:2-6: Tablets of stone in the old covenant. Tablets of human heart in the new covenant. God replaces the heart of stone with the heart of flesh.
Romans 2:29: But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God. We are cut off from sin by the Holy Spirit.
2 Cor 3:5: Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God.
Abraham
Christian life should be exciting always. Motivation to be free from sin should be love for Jesus and not out of fear. We need to open our hearts for Jesus to enter. New covenant is liberating. Jesus has set us free so let us live in the freedom. Col 2:13-15: Jesus has disarmed the enemy.
Daniel
Luke 1:74: God wants us to serve Him without fear. Timidity goes away and we can freely serve God. Knowing what Christ has done for us and then we receive the life of Jesus. 1 Peter 1:4-7; 2:9: God gives us everything immediately when we come to Him.
